Recovery from an Overactive Mind

Good morning my people. I have been thinking a lot about self-improvement lately. By this, I mean the part where I actually implement more positive practices into my daily life. I don’t know about anyone else, but sometimes I confuse thinking about improving myself (the awareness) from the actual actions where I commit to changing my current circumstances that I have the power to change. I think it is easy to get lost in the thinking aspect in this day and age with so much constantly going on around us.

Though I don’t view my desire to get out of the present moment as an issue strictly with substances, I decided that I would like to live more of a recovery based life. By this I mean a life where I practice mindfulness more often than merely thinking about it. Thinking and doing are of different vibrations.

I am committed to putting my best interest at heart without needing to distract myself with anything outside myself every time I feel something uncomfortable. We do this as humans quite often, and we may not even realize it. Some people do it with thinking of the past, some live in the future, some of us live in our phones/social media, some use drugs, have sex or date compulsively, eat excessively or try to control everything they eat, some are super into fitness. The list can go on forever.

A lot of these patterns have become the norm for many, so some people arent bothered by it. I still have a difficult time calling this an addiction, but if thats the scientific word for it, I suppose I have to accept it. I feel more comfortable calling it the human condition or the collective human dysfunction as Eckhart Tolle refers to it. Lately my most recognizable habits that I am working on are living too much in the future and overeating.

I bought a book on amazon that I am excited to read and incorporate called The Zen of Recovery, by Mel Ash, that I am excited to get my hands on. I have been inspired lately by the open-mindedness of a lot of people around me. I believe that accepting people for whatever their beliefs and reality are will allow me to better accept myself.

We are all human, and though we may be unlimited consciousness, we do have limitations on Earth. I think that practicing esteemable qualities as a way of life can vastly improve the way we feel about ourselves and our lives, while having a positive effect on others as well. I think one of the most important things when approaching a program meant to improve yourself is to set an intention. Mine was that there is nothing WRONG with me, and that I am bringing awareness and acting in ways that reflect self-love and integrity. Even if there is nothing wrong with us, we can always improve! I will keep you guys posted on what is working well.

Have a great day friends.

  1. Highly intuitive on both mindfulness and setting an intention. Living in the past or future robs us of the power of now, the only time we are truly present. Can’t be present in a time zone that is gone or hasn’t happened yet. As far as overeating, that is purely a function of dissatisfaction at some level. One must find meaningful satisfaction either in our emotions, how we feel about ourselves, or activities we take part in to satisfy one or both. I applaud you on efforts to evolve. Just my humble opinion, of course!

    1. Thanks!! It’s sneaky how dissatisfaction can creep up on us. I didn’t think I was, but I guess when our actions don’t align with the way we would like to feel, something is off. I miss having some kind of program/structure in my life. You definitely inspired me on some level also, so thank you for living a life focused on self-improvement as well! 🙂

      1. Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say! Right Mind, Right Intention. I believe recognition for change is the first step to changing, so you are well on your way. You are making me realize I need to post more of my jourbey, and less generic stuff, so thank you!
